Sultan Ali Allana has been the Chairman of the Board of Directors of HBL, since the privatization of the Bank in February 2004 by the Government of Pakistan.

Bio

Sultan Ali Allana, who was born in Karachi into a Sindhi Family in 1959, is a successful Pakistani banker who is serving as the Chairman of Habib Bank Limited and as the director of the Agha Khan Fund for Economic Development. As far as his educational background is concerned, he obtained an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering and a postgraduate diploma in Management from McGill University. Furthermore, he obtained an MS in Management Technology from the University of Wisconsin, USA. His banking journey started with Citibank in 1985 and went on to establish Global Securities in 1994, a joint venture with UBS AG. In the year 1999, he became the CEO of NDLC after acquiring its managerial stake. In 2000, he collaborated with the government of Pakistan on a structural reform initiative that allowed him to contribute to the establishment of Microfinance Banks in the country. In 2003, he volunteered with the Agha Khan Fund for Economic Development (AKFED) to manage investments in banking and insurance. The following year, he was appointed the Chairman of Habib Bank Limited. One of the greatest milestones that he achieved as the CEO of HBL, was the tireless efforts of his and his team that played a vital role in removing Pakistan from the FATF grey list.
